The Velvet Trail........Stumped
The Velvet Trail is a 2.5km circular walking route, which is the northern part of the ‘Green Beach’ from Weld Road southwards, then winding back through the Dunes. The Velvet Trail is lush with vegetation and swamp areas, which is a breeding area for Natterjack Toads and the Northern Dune Tiger Beetle. Much of the site remains relatively quiet which is crucial for its continuing importance as the small woodland areas adjoining the trail are breeding grounds for birds. All of the area is within an existing Site of Special Scientific Interest and is part of the European Special Area of Conservation.
The sensitivity of the area should be respected whilst accessing the site. From Autumn through to Spring the walk can be regarded as a ‘wellie walk’ as the ground can be quite waterlogged and boggy. It might be difficult to access all the caches due to high tide, at certain times of the year, so extra care should be taken.
There is limited parking at the Weld Road access point to the beach. The walk is a favourite of dog walkers so eyes down to avoid the debris!
Please bring your own pen. Replace exactly as found.
