Pimple Hill View Traditional Cache
walkergeoff and wife: The location has deteriorated since I hid the cache so I need to move it. Rather than leave it disabled until I can find another location I thought it best to archive it. That way, when I do find a better place, someone will get a genuine DNF.

A cache with a view of a sadly much-neglected historical site in Castle Bromwich.
Pimple Hill is a fascinating location, accessible only with difficulty from a lay-by on the Collector Road via a very overgrown path. Hence the cache is placed where the Hill can be seen, sadly covered in trees and brambles.
There is evidence of Stone Age, Bronxze Age and Roman occupation. In the 12th century a motte and bailey castle was built to defend the crossing of the nearby River Tame. It didn't last all that long, having been built of wood. Since the local population was easily subdued and made subject to the Norman rulers its need was diminished and it soon decayed.
When the Collector Road was built extensive archaelogical digging was done before the road and housing was built.
It is scheduled under the Ancient Monuments and Archaelogical Areas Act 1979 and is designated as a Local Widlife Site. It is in private ownership and has been sadly neglected, which is a shame for such a fascinating relic of the history of the area.
