Geocache Description:

If you are on a mission for a nice sunday drive this is a chache to place on your list to hit for the day. This cache is located off Hwy 140 between Como TN and McKenzie TN near the Middle Fork of the Obion River. You will be seeking a watertight tupperwear container that has some swag for trade.

This cache is placed at the location where I began my 110 mile trip throughout the West Tennessee area via the local river system. At this point you will find the Middle Fork of the Obion River. It was here back in 2010 that a buddy and myself set out on a journey. Some called us crazy and others called us just plain stupid. Either way we are both hard headed and love an adventure so we paid none of them any mind and started our journey anyway. Our journey was one of exploration and adventure. We were determined to put a boat in at this location and float our way to the Mississippi River. By the way thr crow flies it is 56 miles from this location to the closest portion of the Mississippi River. However by the way of the natural and beautiful West Tennessee River system that distance was almost doubled. It was 110 miles of exploration throughout several West Tennessee counties. Our adventure took us through Henry, Weakly, Obion and Dyer counties. Accomponying us on this trip were the bare essentials. We were determined to live off the land and water for our trip to the mighty Mississippi. As we set off at 6 AM on that July morning we had all the necessary supplies for the trip... so we thought. As Davy Crocket had done over a centrury earlier we left with rifles and shotguns at our side, a few life jackets for safety and we even took the creature comforts of a tent for shelter. The only problem is we did not take enough water. The scortching July heat played us for a fool and we drank our two cases of water within the first 2 days of the journey. For safety reasons we pulled out at Hwy 89 and decided a refit was in order. Until this point we had been paddling this entire journey. While we were refiting we decided to refit the boat as well with my 6 HP Johnson. (Best decission of the entire trip) This made the journey so much easier. As we relaunched the boat from our take out spot we continued our exploration of the beautiful West Tennessee back country. Over the next two days we made our way through the river system joining the South, Rutherford and North Forks of the Obion River. Along our trip we encountered a few fishermen who laughed when we asked how far we were from the Mississippi River, they must have thought we were kidding when they asked where we were heading. As we counted the beaver and cranes and other wildlife along our way we could not help but reflect on how great of an experience this journey has been. If you find this cache and leave with nothing, leave with the desire to chase your dreams and passions in life. As we rounded Moss Island and emptied out into the Mississippi River I could not help but think I have done it. I have done what others have laughed at I have completed my journey.
