grateful cacher: Thanks to all who attended, and made this a great evening. Discovered that it is possible to sit outside in the middle of winter on an open patio and have a great time. Surf's up, time to catch a wave till we can do it again.......

Geocache Description:

Nothing better to do on a cold, late winter evening? Dreading that return to the daily grind tomorrow? Why not head out for a little fun in the (artificial) sun with some geocachers??

I had my first event here several months ago, and it was a blast. So many folks showed up that the manager even had to help take orders and bus the tables. It was so much fun, I thought "Why not do it again?"

"Well I've been thinking 'bout
All the places we've surfed and danced
And all the faces we've missed
So let's get back together and do it again."

The location and motif for this cache is on that caters to the Deadhead crowd, a place where there is harmony, respect, and good karma for anyone who tips a brew or eats a meal. So why is it got a Beach Boys-sounding title?? Well, for one night, and one night only, these two iconic California groups, each with their own unique sound, shared the stage. It was at Bill Graham's Fillmore East in New York, on April 27th, 1971. So it seems appropriate that if I'm going to "do it again", I should include my other favorite source of music. If you click on the related webpage link, you can hear that evening's show, since the Dead allowed their shows to be taped (as long as they weren't sold).

Location: Barley Mill Pub
1629 S.E. Hawthorne
Portland, OR 97214
(503) 231-1492
When: Sunday February 24th, 2013 7:00pm till...?

The Barley Mill — opened in 1983 as the initial joint venture between brothers Mike and Brian McMenamin — is a Southeast Portland favorite, where it has radiated tie-dyed good vibes at the corner of Hawthorne Boulevard and 17th Avenue for 25-plus years. The cozy Barley Mill is festooned with colorful artwork and artifacts everywhere you look, including some great Grateful Dead memorabilia. Or rack 'em up and try your hand at our classic Brunswick pool table. From friends to families, all are welcome — kids especially like our sunny upstairs loft and our outdoor sidewalk seating. (Although in the winter it can get a little chilly).

So I am inviting all geocachers, their families and friends to come by for an evening of conversation, eating, conversation, geo-war stories, all in a relaxing environment. Dress code? Since it's a Beach Boys type event, why not get out your baggies, aloha shirts, and hurachi sandals, wax up your surfboard, and come on a safari with me.......

Please post a "will attend" log, so I can get an idea of a head count. I've already given them a deadhead count, but would like to get a little more accurate so we can get more room if needed. There is no parking lot for the pub, but there is plenty of on street parking available. No definite agenda planned, just a time for socializing and chatting about the past fall and winter's caching experiences we've had, and any plans for the upcoming summer. The menu is good, the prices aren't too bad, and it's a McMenamen's, what more needs to be said. You can take a look at the menu by clicking on the name of the pub above to get an idea of what is offered.
