Geocache Description:

Easy five stage multi that leads to a small screw-top container. No bushwhacking required. Final relocated and calculations updated October 18, 2020.

RoyBatty is (was?) a local geocacher who hid many good caches (particularly multis). Unfortunately he dropped out of the geocaching scene in 2009 and hasn't been heard from since. Due to support for his caches from others in the geocaching community I checked out a couple of his cemetery multis and enjoyed them immensely. Duly moved, here is my ode to RoyBatty and an homage to his cemetery multis.
Ode to RoyBatty
A haunted crypt with chilling sound
The cemetery traipse all around
Living necropolis so fair
Our friend RoyBatty brought us there
Alas our joy that did abound
Shall no longer there be found
New adventures we could have cheered
Had RoyBatty perservered
The initial coordinates bring you to a plaque: "To the men and women who died to preserve our freedom". It is with their service in mind that we visit veterans from five wars in a manner that RoyBatty might have done it.
  1. World War I (N 45° 20.777 W 122° 52.107)
    Newton J. Trotter

After paying your respect to our veterans, you can go find the final. Originally there was a sixth stage that led to a small amphitheater (N 45° 20.853 W 122° 52.197) in the quiet woods behind the cemetery where you could peacefully reflect on their service, and from there you would take a well-graded trail to the final (N 45° 20.823 W 122° 52.183). Alas, both the amphitheater and the trail have been bulldozed.
Add AA + DD + EE. (Checksum is 10.) Add this number to the decimal minutes of the false coordinate below for the true north coordinate of the final hide:
N 45° 20.696
Add BB + CC. (Checksum is 6.) Add this number to the decimal minutes of the false coordinate below for the true west coordinate of the final hide:
W 122° 52.004
Good luck, and have fun!

October 2020: The container barely survived the bulldozer's teeth (5 feet!). I brought the final to a location that more closely reflects the experience I intended. Unfortunately the amphitheater that was the sixth stage got bulldozed as well, so we lost the peaceful reflection that had once been integrated in and integral to the experience of this cache.
March 2019: Thank you TrekkingTurtles for the update on RoyBatty: "Had the chance to chat with RoyBatty a few months ago. We had the fun of 'visiting' Roy's Necropolis last summer and had a blast. After leaving a message he contacted us for a small chat. He is alive and well!"
