Geocache Description:

Once you solve the puzzle for the coordinates, head out for a nice healthy hike. Cache is located in the Bear Swamp Natural Area.

DIABETES MELLITUS, or simply diabetes, is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. Diabetics need to check their blood sugar frequently by pricking a finger and squeezing out blood onto a test strip. Sometimes it is necessary to test urine for ketones, which is an acid that is produced when the body is starving for energy.

Before the discovery and development of insulin in 1921, diabetes was basically a death sentence. Today’s insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors make the disease manageable. Still, it is important to recognize the signs of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia and to treat each one properly.

Type 1, Type 2, Gestational Diabetes, Juvenile Diabetes, Adult Onset Diabetes… what does it all mean? Test your smarts on this serious and potentially deadly disease, and get the coordinates to the cache.
