Geocache Description:

This is the second in a series of caches dedicated to my absolute favorite singer, STING.

Gorden Matthew Thomas Sumner, better known by his stage name of Sting, was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, in 1951.  He trained as a teacher and taught for two years, but gave it up to his first love of music.  He played bass in several jazz bands, including Phoenix Jazzmen, the Newcastle Big Band, and Last Exit. He gained his nickname after he performed wearing a black and yellow sweater with hooped stripes while onstage with the Phoenix Jazzmen. Bandleader Gordon Solomon thought that the sweater made him look like a bee, which prompted the nickname "Sting."

Sting rose to fame as the lead singer and bass player for The Police, who became globally popular in the late 1970s. Their style of music was unique for that time, a style that was influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz.

After the breakup of The Police in the early 1980s, Sting undertook a very successful solo career. He continues to write and perform to a huge worldwide fan base.

Sting has been my favorite musician for a long time.  He is a truly educated musician - rare in today's pop market!  This cache is named after the second track of his 1999, Brand New Day.
It was inspired by Sting's fondness for the novel Dune by Frank Herbert. Sting starred in a movie adaptation of the movie in 1984.  The song is noted for Sting's duet performance with Algerian singer Cheb Mami, creating a distinct word music feel to the song. The video deatures Sting taking a trip through the Mojave Desert in a Jaguar S-type.  The video was actually used in advertisements for Jaguar in 2000. Please enjoy the video below, especially if you're a Sting fan.

The cache itself is a large lock-and-lock hidden at Sutton Lake.  The first time I visited this area, I felt like I had "crossed the desert" with all the sand there!
It was because of that blasted sand that I broke my toe.  You can read my log about that experience here.

Congrats to WyMack on FTF!
