This dam was built to provide a head of water for sluicing at diggings in the goldfields some miles below. The sluicing operation, caused dissatisfaction among the local landholders. It interupted the natural flow of the creek. The second ground of objection was the pollution and damage caused to farmland by the sludge from the sluicing work.
You can access this location from either Heathcote/Redesdale Road or from the West by MiaMia/Derrinal Road, Meadow Valley Road runs East/West between the two. You will be able to drive basically to GZ with a little walk. It is a gravel road and care should be taken in the wet. This cache is located along the high bank near the old gate valve structure. Years ago I would come fishing here, there was some good redfin in here and there was a lot of bird life here but the drought years took its toll but hopefully the swans and other birds will come back. I have given a clue, Stay on the top of the bank, it's not at water level. Good luck.
