This cache has been archived.

ROTSIP: No response from owner.
This cache appears to be gone, and it seems unlikely that it will be replaced soon, so I'm archiving it.
If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email, quoting the GC number), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.
Thanks for the past fun.

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

PLEASE NOTE THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE PUBLISHED COORDINATES

This is a first of a series called "Hack Me" and is aimed to educate people on using computer commands that a person can use on the internet.
You will need the commands to find the final coordinates.

Parking is free for 0 - 15 minutes and cache should be easy to find.
Please mind the security and muggles that are bound to be around this shopping mall

Most of us use the internet without thinking, we type in a domain name (like geocaching.com), press enter and the website loads. In the background however it does a lot more.

When you type in the websites address (URL), the computer contacts a DNS (Domain Name System) server. That server translates domain names meaningful for users to the numerical IP addresses needed for the purpose of locating computer services and devices worldwide.

You can basically compare a DNS server to a phone book, you look up a name and get back a phone number :)
There are several ways to use this "phone book" to find out an ip address; It is up to you to find out the right ip address.

The Puzzle
To get to the final coordinates you will need to find the IP address of geocaching.freburg.org and submit it on the page below.
http://geocaching.freburg.org/hackme1.php
The website and the commands that you need execute are harmless and will not damage any computer or server in any way.
Hints to solve the puzzle are included on the website.

Please note: it has not been checked by Groundspeak or by the reviewer for possible malicious content and access to the relevant sites is at your own risk.

A long time ago I found a nice movie that explains networking in general and is easy to understand. You can find it at http://www.warriorsofthe.net/movie.html
