Lake Melissa named in honor of Melissa Swetland, one of three daughters in the family of a pioneer from Canada, well remembered by Miss Nellie C. Childs, assistant county superintendent of schools.
This is Shotwell point, former site of the Pettibone Hotel. The "George" Pettibone Lodge had sleeping rooms, a dining room, attached was a grocery store, candy counter and a dance hall.
