O Rochedo / The Rock

The Rock (O Rochedo em português), é um filme realizado em 1996 por Michael Bay com a participação de Nicholas Cage, Sean Connery e Ed Harris e trata-se de um filme de acção cuja história decorre na ilha de Alcatraz, onde um general herói de guerra do Vietname juntamente com seus comandos, sequestram 81 reféns e ameaçam disparar armas químicas sobre São Francisco a menos que sejam pagos 100 milhões de dólares sendo que a grande maioria seria para doar às famílias dos soldados mortos em operações clandestinas e nunca reconhecidas pelo Governo dos Estados Unidos.

The Rock, is a movie directed by Michael Bay in 1996 with the participation of Nicholas Cage, Sean Connery and Ed Harris, it\\\'s an action movie whose story takes place on Alcatraz Island, where a general Vietnam war hero along with his commandos, kidnap 81 hostages and threaten to fire chemical weapons on San Francisco unless they are paid $ 100 million with the vast majority being donated to the families of soldiers killed in covert operations and never recognized by U.S. Government.

Para evitar que isto aconteça, são enviados para a ilha marines, um especialista em armas químicas e um antigo militar da coroa britânica que se encontrava detido sem julgamento, oficialmente não existe e foi o único homem a conseguir fugir de Alcatraz. A sua principal função é guiar todos os outros homens até ao interior desta fortaleza.

To prevent this from happening, are sent to the island marines, a chemical weapons expert and a former soldier of the British Crown who was detained without trial, does not officially exist and was the only man able to escape from Alcatraz. Its main function is to guide all other men to the interior of this fortress.

Este Rochedo é uma ilha impenetrável, que tirou a vida a muitos que tentaram dele fugir, só um o conseguiu, e só esse homem consegue voltar a entrar!!

This Rock is an impenetrable island, which took the lives of many who tried to flee from it, only one succeeded, and only this man can re-enter!

Em Machico há um outro rochedo, não sendo uma ilha, nem uma prisão de outrora é também um local pouco acessível e que poucos homens (e mulheres) o poderão penetrar. Para lá chegar não necessitam de armas, experiência militar ou conhecimentos em armas biológicas, necessitam isso sim de calçado adequado, sede de aventura, uma boa capacidade física, um GPS (convém) e aconselhamos uma máquina fotográfica pois a vista é soberba.

In Machico there is another rock, that not being an island, neither a prison is also an unaccessible place that few men (and women) will be able to penetrate. To get there you do not need weapons, military experience or expertise in biological weapons, but it is necessary suitable footwear, thirst for adventure, a good physical ability, GPS (of course) and a camera because the view is superb.

Cache

A cache está situada no topo de um rochedo na vertente sudoeste do vale de Machico, sítio do Caramanchão, sendo possível ter uma visão desde a baía de Machico até às zonas mais altas da freguesia. É possível levar qualquer viatura até ao Parking, sendo que os terrenos todo o veículo conseguirão chegar até à entrada para o trilho. 

The cache is situated at the top of a cliff in the southwest part of the valley of Machico, at the site of Caramanchão, and you can get a view from the bay of Machico up to higher areas of the parish. You can bring any vehicle to the Parking, all terrain vehicles are able to reach the entrance of the trail.

Desde este ponto até à levada, existe um percurso minimamente marcado, a partir da levada crie o seu próprio trilho. 

From this point until the water course, there is a minimally marked route, after this course create your own trail. 

Colocamos imagens da opção que utilizamos no terreno, julgamos ser a mais simples, direta e curta. Com terreno solto e arvores caídas, e necessária alguma destreza na sua subida até atingir as costas do rochedo. 

We put pictures of the option we use in the field, we believe it is the most simple, direct and short. With loose land and fallen trees, it is required some dexterity in the climb to reach the back of the rock.

Aquando da colocação do container, verificamos que neste rochedo existe material de escalada pelo que os amantes da modalidade poderão fazer esta cache pela frente do rochedo. Após atingir as costas do rochedo, sugerimos que siga pela direita da cordilheira central, sendo mais seguro e com imagens também a comprovar a rota aconselhada. 

When placing the container, we found climbing material at this rock, so climbing lovers may make this cache by the front of the rock. After reaching the back of the rock, we suggest you take the right side of the central mountain range, being safer, we put images so you can check the advised route.

A cache não se encontra num local perigoso, podendo inclusivamente estar nesse local umas 4 ou 5 pessoas confortavelmente. Incentivamos os geocachers a publicarem fotos suas no local. Não é uma caminhada longa. DESDE A PASSAGEM PELA LEVADA ATÉ AO ROCHEDO FAÇA O SEU PRÓPRIO TRILHO, NÃO EXISTE CAMINHO, SOMENTE TERRA SOLTA E ÁRVORES CAÍDAS, LOGO TENHA MUITO CUIDADO E BOM CALÇADO. DA MESMA FORMA ACONSELHAMOS PRUDENCIA QUANDO ATRAVESSAR O ROCHEDO, NÃO ACONSELHADO A PESSOAS COM VERTIGENS. Boa Sorte!!

The cache is not in a hazardous location, in that location may even be 4 or 5 people comfortably. We encourage geocachers to publish your photos on site. Not a long walk. FROM THE WATER STREAM TO THE ROCK MAKE YOUR OWN TRACK, THERE IS NO WAY, ONLY LOOSE LAND AND FALLEN TREES, SO BE VERY CAREFUL AND CARRY GOOD SHOES. WE ALSO ADVISE YOU PRUDENCE WHEN GOING THROUGH THE ROCK, NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PEOPLE WITH VERTIGO. Good Luck!!
