Geocache Description:

So...I wanted to create a tough puzzle cache, and I fear I may have gone overboard. Oh, well. I'm sure some of you out there are dedicated enough to take on the challenge. After all, there are bragging rights to be had. (Oh, and an unactivated, handmade geocoin to be rewarded on confirmation of FTF!)

My heartfelt thanks to my testers and those who let me use their names in the logic puzzle.

This is actually a series of puzzles. To keep the cache page clean and make things easier on your eyes, I've compiled all puzzles into a single document, available HERE. Alert: You are about to download a file that contains further details needed to find this geocache. As the cache owner, I represent that this file is safe to download although it has not been checked by Groundspeak or by the reviewer for possible malicious content. Download this file at your own risk.

There are two crosswords created in the style of the NY Times puzzles, an acrostic, a logic puzzle, and two nonograms, You will probably need to complete all of them in order to determine the coordinates of the actual hide. Instructions for turning your answers into coordinates are below:

Part 1:
  • First, solve Puzzle 3.
  • Then, on Puzzle 5, write out the letters in boxes 91, 13, 145, 88, 5, 155, 46, 82, 15, 105, in that order.
  • Finally, on Puzzle 6, multiply the point values of the iPhone owner's car and the car owned by the Snake Den cacher.
Part 2:
  • First, solve Puzzle 4.
  • Then, assuming A=1, B=2, ...Z=26, find the value of 23 Across in Puzzle 1. Add to it the number of 'special' squares (you'll know them when you see them) in Puzzle 2.
  • Finally you will need, in order:
    1. The point value of the Delorme owner (puzzle 6),
    2. The box number of the first "R" (puzzle 5),
    3. And one plus the number of squares in the two crossword solutions (Puzzles 1 & 2) that have the same letter in the same position on both grids

You can check your answers for this puzzle on GeoChecker.com.

Special credit to KatnDogz for finding a (non-critical) typo in Puzzle 5. Good eyes, Kat!
