Geocache Description:

The Great Arc Amoreiras starts the final section of 10 arches, ending at the Water House or Mother Water. This section was built between 1745 and 1756 and commemorates the arrival of water to Lisbon.

This reservoir is part of the city’s monumental 18th-century aqueduct. The beautiful waterfall found inside is now often a backdrop for exhibitions and fashion shows, but it’s the terrace that makes a visit worthwhile.

The city views from there include the dome of Estrela Basilica, 25 de Abril Bridge and the towers of Amoreiras. Part of the Water Museum, entrance to the reservoir is through Praça das Amoreiras, a small neighborhood park that invites you to relax and perhaps visit the Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva Museum facing it, presenting the work of one of Portugal’s best-known painters.
