Geocache Description:

Lost, then Abandonded

The Cape Foulwind Railway was a branch railway line West of Westport running to Cape Foulwind. It was used both for passenger service and to transport rock. Rock from the Cape Foulwind Quarry went to the Buller River mouth to form breakwaters locally known as "Tipheads". The rocks were loaded at the quarry with big steam cranes but sometimes fell of the wagons while on their way. With no means of lifting the rocks back on the wagons they were simply left where they fell. The railway embankment is still clearly visible in places and the stray rocks seemingly so out of place were simply 'Lost, then Abandonded'. Please watch the little ones, it's a very busy road.
