Geocache Description:

The Northern New Jersey cachers (NNJC) will be hosting a Geocaching Academy and information seminar in partnership with the Duke Farms Foundation.

This event is a great chance for those who know nothing or little about Geocaching. Come learn an introduction into Geocaching basics 101, or come learn more advanced techniques from experienced Geocachers at the Geocaching 202 information seminar. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this hands on demonstration and experience this growing family activity.

NNJC is offering this workshop to introduce new participants to the basics of geocaching and understand the geocaching website. NNJC will also host an advanced Geocaching Academy to folks who want to learn more about geocaching rules, software, mapping, understanding your GPS, configure computer applications using GSAK, pocket queries and smart phone apps.

GEOCACHING 101 ~ 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM

This is open to the public to promote geocaching

New to Geocaching? Geocaching, a global game of treasure hunting using longitude and latitude coordinates, is a fun filled adventure for all ages. With a GPS receiver, and Internet access, you are ready to explore and search for a "geocache".

NNJC will instruct the basics needed to enjoy this eco-friendly sport including suggested equipment, the web site, how to search for a cache and types of caches. You will enjoy the thrill of the hunt but the real discovery is the countless locations of natural beauty and historical interest you will find that you never knew existed.

GEOCACHER NOTE: THIS GEO-101 CLASS HOLDS 60 PEOPLE, IS A PUBLIC INTRODUCTION FOR NEW GEOCACHERS OR THE GENERAL PUBLIC WHO WANT TO LEARN ABOUT GEOCACHING. IF YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED GEOCACHER, YOU ARE WELCOME TO COME BEFORE 10:30 TO THE DFF ORIENTATION BARN AND VIEW THE DFF ENVIRONMENTAL EXHIBITS, THEN JOIN IN THE GEOCACHING SEMINAR AT 10:30.

Geocaching 202 ~ Advanced information seminar ~ 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

If you are a geocacher, come learn more about the sport of geocaching, learn rules for hiding a cache, get more out of your GPS with learning how to load pocket queries, GSAK basics, and mapping, meet other cachers, hear stories about favorite hikes and hides and share some of your experiences.

NNJC will pair interested participants with a geocacher volunteer to head out on the trail to demonstrate how to find a geocache with your GPS.

The event will be located at the Duke Farm Foundation Orientation Center, 1112 Duke Parkway West, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. The Duke Farm Foundation is home to the DFF Geotrail, a unique journey through Local New Jersey history across the scenic landscapes of the Duke Farms. Participating cachers will have the chance to visit the grounds of the historic Duke Farms to tour many interesting sites and discover the many cultural landmarks around the grounds of the property.

The Duke Farm Foundation will be placing a couple new geocaches for everyone to enjoy a winter hike in their beautiful grounds.

IF YOU ARE ATENDING THE GEOCACHING 101 CLASS, PLEASE POST THIS IN YOUR WILL ATTEND NOTE SO WE CAN GET AN IDEA OF NUMBER FOR THE CLASS.
