100 Flagler Facts Numbers Run. 100 easy to get to, easy to find caches.
This numbers run has been created by Delaine S and the “Old Man of Geocaching”, POJ of POJ & MMJ, as our way of thanking all who have come before us who have made our caching trips fruitful and prolific.
This numbers run is all about Flagler County. The sequentially numbered caches are all on the same side of the road. Seeking the caches in ascending numerical order will ensure that all the caches are on the right side of the road. There are no sidewalks or bike paths along this run. Park off of the road and use caution re-entering the roadway. These caches are all in camouflaged preforms, most of them hanging by green coated wire. There are no baggies or anything else in these caches except the log. Bring your own writing instrument. Please be careful to correctly align the cap on the preform after signing the log, and snug it to the preform to ensure the log will stay dry.
Please put each cache back just the way you found it.
Flagler Fact # 41
Two notable early visitors to the town of Marineland were First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who wrote about it in her syndicated newspaper column, "My Day," and correspondent Ernie Pyle, who proclaimed it "something absolutely new in Florida." In succeeding years Marineland became a watering hole of sorts for literary figures such as Ernest Hemingway, Alexander Woolcott, John Dos Passos, Thornton Wilder and exiled Norwegian Nobel Prize winner Sigrid Undset. Brothers William Rose and Stephen Vincent Benet, descendants of a prominent St. Augustine Minorcan family, visited as well. It had the famous rocking bar room that simulated the action of a moving ship. William Rose Benet was inspired by Marineland to write a children's book about dolphins, and also mentioned Marineland in his autobiograpy, which won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. Humorist Robert Benchley, (whose grandson, Peter Benchley, would later write the best-selling novel Jaws) came so often that he was proclaimed honorary mayor of Marineland.
