Geocache Description:

This Week's Excuse:

This week's excuse is a bit more meaningful and genuine than the last two weeks' excuses: National Freedom Day.

Historically, National Freedom Day has been honored since 1948, commemorating the 1865 signing of the 13th Amendment, by President Abraham Lincoln, to abolish slavery. The purpose of this day is to celebrate freedom from slavery for all people and to acknowledge the importance of freedom and harmony in American society.

How do American's honor National Freedom Day?

For some people, it is a time to promote good will, equality, and to appreciate freedom. Other events include annual breakfasts, luncheons, musical entertainment, film screenings, and literature meetings that explore the theme about freedom.
