Geocache Description:

Camoed micro in Somerville Manor Park, part one of the owner's Caches in the Outfield series.

This little park is tucked away in an historic section of Bridgewater Twp. There is a basketball court, playground, picnic tables, and, of course, a baseball diamond. The terrain at GZ is level but you have to deal with bushes and small trees among the underbrush. Still you shouldn't have too much trouble with this. Make sure it's replaced as you found it to discourage muggling. You will need a pen and tweezers wouldn't hurt. There's plenty of parking on the streets nearby.

The historical significance of this area, which very few area residents seem aware of, centers around the life of Prince Rodgers, a slave after whom a nearby street and park is named. The website purehistory.org has the following entry:

Prince Rodgers, was born on September 20, 1813 in Bridgewater. He was a slave of Cornelius Van Horn until he was twenty-five years of age and then he was freed by his owner. He lived in Bridgewater all his life. He worked on farms and other jobs.

On May 29, 1851 he married Dina Hoagland at the North Branch Reformed Church by Rev. Campbell. Prince Rodgers died on January 16, 1889. Dina, his wife died on May 16, 1882 and both are buried at the now SLAVE CEMETERY on Foothill Road, east of the Green Knoll Firehouse.

Move on to my other two caches south and west of here in the Prince Rodgers baseball complex. ***NOTE: the multi-cache is NOT directly accessible from this cache even though it is only 550 feet away. Do NOT trespass private property.
