Step Four: I have made a searching and fearless moral inventory of myself.
Step Four is a fact-finding and fact-facing process. In this step, you should make a list of all your good and bad characteristics. We are not counting possessions here. Nor are we really listing people, institutions, principles, or even actions in order to count them. We are seeking to illuminate the basis (or underlying cause) of our actions. Many recovering cachaholics have one or more significant experiences in their past that they are highly reluctant to put on paper; either because the incident is one about which they feel great shame or because its revelation might cause severe personal or legal injury to ourselves or others. This Step Four is an inventory of who you are NOW, not who you were when you were GPS-less. A muggle, if one must say. Making this inventory allows us to learn the exact nature of our caching defects - those character flaws that cause us to do the unacceptable things we do - so that once they are removed, we can acquire and live with our new attitudes, thoughts, beliefs, actions and behaviors for our highest good. By taking inventory and learning the exact nature of our wrongs, we are able to recognize when we might be slipping into our old way of life - and headed for new problems.........
Welcome, fellow cacher, to Step Four. Make a list, friend. It's that simple. Only eight more steps to go.............
