An easy circular walk to Tarn Hows from High Cross - fine views across the South Western Lake District. Tarn Hows is one of the most visited spots in Lakeland. Whilst cahces are not permitted around the tarn permission has been granted to place one near a particulaly good viewpoint overlooking the tarn.
This round takes you through some great countryside to Tarn Hows, avoids the crowds and more importantly the extortionate car parking fees (how do they get away with it).
From Wharton Tarn - retrace your steps back to the gate and into the woods - follow the waymarked trial to Tarn Hows.
Once at the Disabled Parking lot which has its own interesting views walk about 200m along the track towards the viewpoint and seat. The cache is just before the view point - its worth the extra effort to scale the slope behind the cache and enjoy the view.
Link this cache with the others in the series to make a great round walk which can be readily completed within a couple of hours.
