Geocache Description:

Welcome to the periodic table of the elements powered trail. There's 114 caches to each represent each element on the periodic table (until new elements are added).

For simplicity sake only elements approved by the “International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry” will be included in this series.



Francium occurs as a result of α disintegration of actinium. Francium is found in uranium minerals, and can be made artificially by bombarding thorium with protons. It is the most unstable of the first 101 elements. The longest lived isotope, 223Fr, a daughter of 227Ac, has a half-life of 22 minutes. This is the only isotope of francium occurring in nature, but at most there is only 20-30 g of the element present in the earth's crust at any one time. No weighable quantity of the element has been prepared or isolated. There are about 20 known isotopes. Source: Webelements.

The cache containers are small tubes as shown in the picture below


These containers have only a logbook inside them and no pen/pencil. Please make sure to bring a pen.

This power trail starts at Mount Henry Bridge and continues south down the freeway cyclepath. This power trail is designed for bicycles or walkers and will be extremely hard, if not impossible for drivers. There is however a car park and a playground near the start.
