Geocache Description:

This is a two-stage multi-cache within the city of Newton Falls. I made this a multi-cache because I wanted to highlight a piece of Newton Falls HISTORY, but the "powers that be" were a little nervous about an actual "hide" in this location. So, with no physical container, I am making the first stop just a tourist attraction and informational stop, rather than an actual cache container location.

The beginning coordinates for this cache will take you to this historic site in Newton Falls. When you reach the coordinates, you should find information about the structure. Please notice the nearby closed-circuit cameras... yes, you are being watched, so mind your manners! After you read the information, you will use it to find the final coordinates for this multi-cache, uisng this easy clue:

  • Year the crosswalk was added = ABCD.
  • Final cache coordinates = N 4D A1.C58; W 080 58.55B
While it is not an actual stop for this multi-cache, you are very near another evidence of Newton Falls history. If you take a side trip upriver to the north to N 41 11.364; W 080 58.309, then look to the east and you should see a very large oak tree near the river's edge. If you look several feet up the tree, you will see a rusted piece of metal roofing that is twisted around the trunk and limbs of this giant oak. You are looking at one of the few remaining visible reminders of the F5 tornado that ripped through Newton Falls on May 31, 1985!

From here, the cache container and log are a reasonable walk or easy drive away, in a small four-corners city park in the CENTER of the downtown section of Newton Falls. From ground zero, be sure to check out the veteran's memorial to the northwest.  Also notable to the northwest is an interesting wall mural. Beware! You are in Tiger Country!

The cache is a bright silver micro and contains only a log.  Please sign log and replace container as you found it for others to enjoy!

This cache was placed with permission of the Newton Falls Parks and Recreation Board.

Congratulations to Dame Deco... FTF on a cold January day!
