The Dunes of Tirrenia
Between the mouth of the Arno River at Marina di Pisa and the Navicelli Canal in Livorno lies Tirrenia, along the Mediterranean Sea, specifically the Tyrrhenian Sea (Mar Tirreno). Along the western coast of Tuscany, this sleepy Italian town bursts at the seams each summer as the beaches beckon Italians and tourists to a seaside holiday. Hidden in Tirrenia is this quiet park between the Viale del Tirreno and the sea. It’s a forest that includes a variety of coastal species of flora and fauna. The park has well groomed paths through the forest and dunes. You can escape the crowds with a quiet walk in the woods. Who knows, you might catch a glimpse of some of the local residents, winged or four-footed. Step quietly, listen, you might hear the sea just over those dunes...
The cache is well-tucked and hidden from muggle eyes, but most of the muggles are headed to the beach and not wandering through the park.
Parking in the off-season will not be a problem, you’ll most likely find a spot right on Viale Tirreno, the main street through Tirrenia. During the summer beach season, you’ll have more of a challenge, and may have further to walk if you have to park a few blocks away from the beach and walk over. The cache is very near the public access walkway to the beach, and the waypoint listed gives the entrance to the park itself. The pictures show some of the signs through the park. Enjoy your walk!

Le Dune di Tirrenia
Tra la foce dell'Arno a Marina di Pisa e il Canale dei Navicelli a Livorno si trova Tirrenia. Questa sonnolenta cittadina italiana lungo la costa toscana d’estate trabocca di bagnanti italiani e stranieri che raccolgono l’invito delle sue spiagge. A Tirrenia è nascosto questo parco tranquillo tra il Viale del Tirreno e il mare. È una macchia che include una gran varietà di specie costiere di flora e di fauna. Il parco è ben curato e ci sono diversi sentieri attraverso la foresta e le dune, lungo i quali si può sfuggire alla folla con una tranquilla passeggiata. Chissà, forse riuscite ad adocchiare alcuni dei residenti locali, alati o a quattro zampe. Passate in silenzio, ascoltate, potreste sentire il mare, poco più in là di quelle dune ...
La cache è ben nascosta da occhi babbani, ma comunque la maggior parte dei babbani sono diretti alla spiaggia e non vanno in giro per il parco.
Il parcheggio in bassa stagione non sarà un problema: molto probabilmente troverete posto in Viale del Tirreno, la strada principale che attraversa Tirrenia. In alta stagione sarà un’impresa, e potreste trovarvi a camminare un po'. La cache è vicino alla passerella di accesso pubblico alla spiaggia, e il waypoint si riferisce all'ingresso del parco stesso. Le foto mostrano alcuni dei cartelli del parco. Buona passeggiata!
