WWFM X -May the Fourth be With You! This is the tenth annual World Wide Flash Mob event (WWFM X) A flashmob event is short (15 mins) and intended to be a surprise to passing members of the public. There are plenty of example videos on the internet if you want to take a look
The series of Geocaching WWFM events was initiated and still overseen by Sonny and Sandy from the Podcacher Geocaching podcast. As Sonny is a big Star Wars fan, this year’s event is planned for the 4th May 2013 (May the 4th…) which, hopefully isn’t too obscure a pun! To many fans, this date is known as Star Wars Day!
There are certain pieces of information that it would be helpful if you could include in your "Will Attend" log. This is to help with planning the event and warning the pub of how many might come along afterwards!
• Attendees should be encouraged to attend in Star Wars themed fancy dress. Anything from a full costume to a token light sabre are acceptable. (There is no actual requirement to be in fancy dress, however.) There are a number of fancy dress hire outlets in the area which can be found with a quick web search. Otherwise use your imagination, flair and creativity to make your own!
• Attendees decide whether they wish to on the side of the Empire/Sith (baddies) or the Rebel Alliance/Jedi (goodies). A list of suggested characters for the two groups can be found when you follow the weblink near the top of this page.
If at all possible, try to keep your costume hidden until the start of the event.
covered • Those on the side of the Evil Empire/Sith meet at the published coordinates. The rebels meet at another nearby location, indicated by the "REBEL BASE" additional waypoint).
• At 12 noon exactly, the Star Wars theme music will be played loudly to attract attention. All characters should assume their roles/stances/reveal their costumes/take out their light sabres etc and generally get into character
• The rebels slowly approach the Empire and a non-contact mock battle ensues. (2 mins)
• The music pauses. The rebels/Jedi all yell “YOU KILLED MY FATHER”. The empire/Sith reply “NO, I AM YOUR FATHER” Rebels all scream “NOOOOOOOOO…”
• As the music changes, anyone dressed as Darth Vader "dies" and takes off their mask. Luke comforts him and holds him in his arms. Anyone dressed as Princess Leia and Han Solo (may) exchange a kiss.
• Round of applause. Theme music plays again.
• There will be a quick opportunity for a group photo and also a fancy dress prize for both adults and children which will include the honour of claiming FTF as well as an adult and a child's prize donated by caching suppliers.
• Bugs/coins discovered and exchanged etc. There will be a special WWFM travel bug on sale, subject to pre-orders. If you would like to reserve one then please indicate this in you "Will Attend" log.
Trackables may be dropped into the event before the date itself. There will be a special container at GZ for placing trackables. Only trackables that you want to release should be places here. DON’T put items from your personal collection here or they may be taken to Tattooine.
• This is the end of the Flashmob event and cachers should depart peacefully. However, those who wish to may stay and meet for lunch/drinks in the nearby pub. Again, please say if you intend to stay for this in your "will attend" log so that I carn warn the pub of likely numbers. (I've already warned them that we might be in fancy dress!)
The badge at the top of this listing may be used as a souvenir to post on your profile if you attended. However, there is talk of Groundspeak awarding a WWFM souvenir to anyone attending an event on the day.
