Geocache Description:

Along the newly completed trail between the Johnson Ranch and Froom Creek, the cache is hidden amongst the lovely oaks where the trail crosses the Filipponi Ranch.

The fastest way to this cache is from the Johnson Ranch trailhead. Stay to the right, and go up on the higher loop. After the bridges, take a hard right to the new trail cut into the hillside. You'll arrive up at the top of the ridge and be rewarded with lovely views of Edna Valley. The trail then takes you through some lovely oaks and along the road through the Filipponi Ranch. Once you have found the cache, either backtrack to the Johnson Ranch trailhead, or, better yet, continue on through the Filipponi Ranch another 1.5 - 2 miles, where the new trail meets up with the Froom Creek Trail and on to the Irish Hills trailhead, at the end of Madonna Road. If you do the whole hike, plan on approximately 5.5 to 6 miles one way.  Further along the trail, you'll have amazing views of the ocean, and be sure to seek out Herbie's Hideaway, a geocache placed in honor of Herb Filipponi, who granted a right to pass through the ranch, allowing this lovely new addition to our local trails. You may encounter the longhorn cattle (with calves in the early spring) along the trail, as they do graze the property. Bobcat, mountain lion, and coyotes have also been spotted. Keep small dogs and kids in sight!
