As of October 17, 2022 - Benchmarks have been retired and are no longer allowed to be logged - So you can only get 2 finds for this one.
We were disappointed when the cache that used to be near this location was archived a short time ago. In an effort to return this site to its popularity among geocachers, Nana & I have decided to place another near this location.
I stopped by the Suffolk Seaboard Train Station and talked with Kirsty and she was very excited to get a geocache back here at the station. Please stop by and say "HI" if the office is open when you look for this cache.
The station business hours are: Monday and Tuesday: CLOSED Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 11AM - 4PM Saturday: 10AM - 3PM Sunday: 1PM - 4PM
All the information you need to find the cache is at the location (in the form of a CHIRP). Visit the location. The site is the Suffolk Seaboard Passenger Station and the building is a WAYMARK. Waymarking is similar to geocaching but there is no log to sign. You can see the Waymarking page for this location by clicking here.
Also at this site is a Benchmark. Benchmarks are NGS survey markers and other items that have been marked in the USA. You can visit the page for this Benchmark by clicking here.
To find this cache:
1) Go to the Station. You can log a find at Waymarking.com once you take a pic. (a requirement listed on the page)
2) Find the Benchmark - read the page for the Benchmark and it will tell you exactly where it is and give you coordinates. Once you locate it, you can log the benchmark as found.
3) Walk around the station - somewhere around the posted coordinates your CHIRP enabled GPS unit should pick up the signal from the CHIRP and give you the final coordinates for the cache
4) Make your way to the final coordinates. You will find yourself at what will eventually be the beginning of the Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail which will eventually be a walking/biking trail that goes all the way from Suffolk to Virginia Beach. A little down the trail and your GPS should point you to the correct location of the cache!!!
FTF gets bragging rights!!!
