The journey to the picturesque La La Falls (also known as Bridal Falls) is a mere 1.5 km walk from the car park.
A mostly gentle gravel uphill pathway next to Four Mile Creek with one zig-zagging pinch near the end to make it difficult for bikers and pram pushers, but not impossible.
I can power walk up and back in about 40 minutes.
You’ll probably hear Lyrebirds when you take this beautiful fern hugging walk, perhaps even see one.
The eastern part of Warburton, between the narrow cutting that divides the town and the Yarra River bridge, was often referred to as La La Township or La La. A Miss Leila Ward owned much of the land before being subdivided. It has been written that La La was a term used by Miss Ward for her guesthouse, meaning ‘Welcome Welcome’, however the similarity to her Christian name ‘Leila’ may also be a clue to the name’s origin. The track is part of an original timber tramway. More about that history when you arrive. The renovations of the walking track in 2011/12 included the addition of some beautiful stone work and information signs. I hope this new cache is an incentive to come back and see the improvements.
Thanks goes out to ‘geofreak’ who pioneered the original ‘Welcome Welcome’ cache http://coord.info/GCG21Z 2003-2011, of which some of the history in this description was duplicated for future cachers to enjoy.
The cache is not behind/under the man made rock structures - so don't go pulling that apart!. Your GPS will probably have ‘fun’ in this valley, which is why it has an elevated difficulty rating. (You’re welcome to post your GZ Coords and see what variations we get.)
Here's the cryptic instructions you need:
A meter behind “La La Falls” is the box.
The live falls? Oh, no! No need for wet socks!
Enjoy the journey and destination even more than the cache, which may have enticed you here!
