Lahaina Cannery Mall is a shopping mall located in Lahaina, Maui. It was opened in 1987.
West Maui's roots in the historic pineapple industry began in 1912, when David T Fleming began growing pineapple for the Maui Pineapple Company. The pineapple was canned less than a mile from Lahaina harbor at the site of this mall. Tons of the exotic, succulent fruit were processed and canned here. The Baldwin's growing and canning operations in Lahaina continued for many decades. But in the 1960's the pineapple cannery in west Maui was closed.
In the 1980s, plans were established for a shopping center on the site of the old cannery. The first idea was to reuse the Baldwin Packers cannery. That proved impractical so the distinctive corrugated style and factory-like open conduits inside were adopted for the design so the new mall would look like an old pineapple cannery. Step inside and see for yourself!
Please bring a writing implement as the container is too small to hold one. There are many, many shopping muggles in the area so be stealthy. It is outside the mall so it is available 24/7. The container is a small magnetic key case.
