Hostel No. 1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ScouterHerb & MrsB: This one had a good run but we are unable to determine if still there. New fence construction makes us wonder. We will have the site checked after the snow is totally gone to make sure it is clear.

USE STEALTH AND CAUTION - HIGH MUGGLE AREA

This cache will take you across the street from the site of the first Youth Hostel in North America.

It opened on July 1st, 1933 as the Canadian Youth hostel at Bragg Creek, Alberta. It was a tent rented from Calgary Tent & Awning and was erected by the Barclay sisters.

It was erected on the property of Ida May and Harry White, on what is now White Avenue. A plaque marking the spot is now placed in front of the White home, next to the original Trading Post (now an Ice Cream Parlor), across the street form the cache.

It was the first of eventually three locations for the hostel in the Bragg Creek area.

More information on the hostel and the plaque is available at Bragg Creek.ca.

FTF prize is a small "Write in the Rain" Log Book.
