Geocache Description:

A series of caches to memorialize fallen firefighters in Nevada

Platt, Earl B. Davis, Glen D., Hobson, Frank-Sparks Fire Department (August 15, 1948) The Lake Street (Van Buren building) Explosion and Fire. Five people, including three firemen are killed. The firemen killed are Sparks Fire Chief Frank B. Hobson; Reno Capt. Glen D. Davis; and Reno Fireman Earl Barry Platt. Hundreds of spectators are injured. The force of the explosion sent a barrage of splintered glass, bricks and wood fragments into the crowd gathered to watch the fire. Chief Hobson, 60 years old, joined the Sparks FD in 1927 and was appointed Chief in 1939. Capt. Glen D. Davis, 39 years old, was with the Reno FD nine years. Fireman Earl B. Platt, 24 years old, had been with the Reno FD 19 months.
