Geocache Description:

Following DragonsWest’s entertaining 12-12-12 event, let’s meet again at the Sonoma Chicken Coop near the San Jose Airport (SJC) on March 13th.

WHEN: Wednesday, 3-13-13, from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. (drop in anytime). The kitchen closes at 9 p.m.

WHERE: In the spacious upstairs of the Sonoma Chicken Coop, 90 Skyport Drive, San Jose. (The terrain is 1.5 because there’s no elevator.)

PARKING: In the lot next to the Coop off Technology Dr. (disregard 1-hour parking signs), in the free garage at the end of the lot, or directly across Technology from the restaurant – on the street or in the parking lot (with permission from the Coop).

WHO: All current and future geocachers and their families are invited. If this is your first geocaching event: welcome!

WHY: Enjoy good food and drink, meet other cachers, get hints for your unfound caches, trade trackables, and learn more about geocaching. Come share our love of the game!

  • Log a “Will Attend” and tell us the number in your party so we can give a count to the restaurant.
  • Invite newbies that you see on cache pages.
  • Please drop your trackables in the event by 7 p.m., Tues., March 12th, if possible. The earlier the better. The goals will be listed on a sheet to facilitate trades. (Otherwise, be ready to tell us your trackable’s goal at the event.) We'll also be listing the tracking codes on our inventory list so bring a list if you have more than a couple, or email them to Time_for_a_break.
  • Order your food and drink downstairs; then join everyone upstairs while you wait for your pager to go off, indicating that your dinner is ready. (But no purchase is necessary.)
  • We’ll have mixer sheets for everyone to ask at least five people for a cache recommendation, so bring your suggestions.

A palindrome is a word, phrase, number, or other sequence of units that may be read the same way in either direction.
*O, stone, be not so.
*Desserts, I stressed!
*Stressed was I ere I saw desserts.
*I saw desserts; I’d no lemons, alas no melon! Distressed was I.

Can you help? Please email Time_for_a_break. Seeking:
  1. Donations for a raffle.
  2. Volunteers to take one-hour (or less) shifts at the welcome or trackables tables (starting at 5:00).

Update posted on 3/4:
1. The raffle will begin at 7 p.m. and winners will select their own prizes. Be sure to pick up a ticket when you sign in.
2. Event first-timers and cachers from beyond the Bay Area will have nametags of a different color. Please give them a warm welcome.
3. Any more table volunteers?
4. We have some wonderful prizes donated by local cachers, Groundspeak, and Magellan. More donations are welcome and would add to the fun.
5. The Tattletales will be unable to attend, but they’re donating some of their homemade “I’m a Geocaching Nut” sculptures and a mysterious package! (Hear more about this soon.) They want to thank everyone for the amazing logs their caches have received. They’re surprised at all the favorite points, but we’re not!

Update posted on 3/10, by co-host DittosMom:
Excitement is building for the Wed. event!

And now, a peek at some of the fabulous prizes:
*A custom cache, created just for this event by the celebrated Tattletales - for you to hide as your own!
*Groundspeak has donated a cute Signal plush toy, a geocaching book, and two very cool lackey geocoins.
*Russ/The Rat is donating a copy of his exciting geocaching mystery novel: Cached Out.
*Magellan and many cachers have donated cache containers and supplies. (Bring your donation along - the more the merrier!)

But that's not all! Everyone will take home:
An event-commemorative, eco-friendly pen, donated by cordulaevelyn.

Other no-less-than-heart-stopping activities include:
*The Rat, signing his excellent book (Bring your copy, or copies are available at the event.)
*A themed sing-along
*A special surprise (You should arrive by 6:30 p.m. to get the full benefit of the surprise; wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)

And if you can, please drop your trackables into the online inventory by TUESDAY night, so we can have a list of "who wants to go where" available for the event on Wed.

STILL AVAILABLE: Purchase deadline is Monday, 3/11, for the LivingSocial deal at the Skyport Coop: $15 for $30 worth of food and drink. (You can ignore the restrictions of one-per-table and reservations needed.) LivingSocial Deal at the Skyport Coop

After the event be sure to retrieve any trackables you picked up, from the cache page links, and log “Attended.”

See you all soon!

Please check back here before the event for any updates. See you at the Coop!
