Worth a visit just to see the view
but the art work is amazing
In august 2009, there was an art competition for the city of Whitehorse's Public Safety Building
The commission was awarded to Daphne Mennell of Whitehorse.
The idea behind the "horse" was that it was to be created from donations of metal from ALL Yukoners, not just from Whitehorse residents.
As Whitehorse is the capital and distribution centre to the whole Yukon, every Yukoner passes though, shops, or stays in the city.
There are memories stored in the metal objects that were donated. Some came with stories, but most did not
What Ms Mennell found appealing about the idea of the sculpture being made up of donated metal was that it became a community project
engaging and representing people regardless of their background, age or culture
It is a public art piece made possible by the public
Her collaborator was her neighbour and friend Roger Poole, a long time journeyman welder

A metal container placed on the ground
There is no need to touch the actual sculpture
but take time to admire both the work and the view
