This is our first hide, so we will keep it simple. It is a quick park-and-grab cache in a small, coastal milkwood forest in Sandbaai, a suburb in the Greater Hermanus area. Down the road, is Sandbaai's main beach and just past the breakers, a forest of a different kind - kelp or bamboo.
Kelp is a large type of seaweed belonging to brown algae (Phaeophyceae) and are often found growing in high density kelp forests. It is recognised as one of the most productive and dynamic ecosystems on Earth, growing on average about 30cm/day and sustaining a large variety of marine life.
