For almost 28 years, I drove by this spot when I worked for Crane Plumbing. In fact, when I started geocaching in 2005, I chose to include Crane in my geocaching user name. Needless to say, this place brings back a lot of memories. Therefore, I wanted to commemorate this time in my life with a cache. The cache is on the State right-of-way so there is no reason to enter private property.
This manufacturing facility was originally built in 1963. The product line included vitreous china plumbing fixtures such as toilet bowls and tanks, lavatories, sinks, and urinals. The original facility utilized an approximately 300-foot first fire kiln and a 250- foot refire kiln. In 1971, the size of the facility was essentially doubled with the addition of a 300-foot direct-fire kiln and a smaller shuttle kiln for the refire process. The plant continued in operation until 2006 when new owners chose to close the plant and import these products from China.
