The dictionary I found defines Waypoint and Projection as follows;
way•point n.
A point between major points on a route, as along a track
pro•jec•tion n.
The act of projecting or the condition of being projected.
But they don’t have a definition of these when used together….Hmmmmm. I feel a need for a cache!
Waypoint projection has been around in the Geocaching world for some time but I haven’t seen many lately so time to dust off the “waypoint projection” button of the GPS and go to it. For those of you that may not have GPS with this feature there are smart phone apps.
No GPS or app…. better get the paper maps out!
Project from the Posted coordinates or the provided waypoint (they are the same).
The posted coordinates will take you to the side of a house. On the west side you should be able to see a four digit number near the top of this house. This number will be A B C D
Firstly multiply each digit together to get a 3 digit number. i.e. A x B x C x D = E
To get the (True North) bearing divide E by 3 and subtract 14 i.e. E/3 – 14
To get the distance in meters add 54 to E i.e. 54 + E
In the cache will be a bearing or a distance, record these as they will be needed for the Projection Final
