This cache has been archived.

Geocaching HQ Admin: The City of Portland has a new geocaching policy for geocaches placed on Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) property. The policy is intended to support the growing recreational activity of geocaching while also ensuring it does not negatively impact parks, properties, assets, staff or the public.

PP&R welcomes geocaches in many of its parks and properties. However, the property where this geocache is located is one that does not allow geocaches according to the new policy. (Note: Forest Park is divided into three management units - the northernmost unit between Germantown Road and Newberry does not allow geocaches.)

There are many reasons a park may not allow geocaches, based on the determination of the staff who manage each particular site. These reasons can include that the property’s primary focus is on habitat values, the potential conflicts with other park users, among other factors. Because this geocache is in a park that does not allow them, it been archived. As the geocache owner, you are expected to retrieve the geocache container and any associated physical stages within 2 weeks. After August 27th, your geocache may be removed by parks’ staff or other designated persons.

For questions about this policy, please contact Bryan Aptekar, Portland Parks & Recreation, bryan.aptekar@portlandoregon.gov.

Geocache Description:

CLOSED ON MONDAYS Open to the public Tues-Sat 9AM-4PM; Sun 1PM-4PM

Posted coordinates are for the parking lot.  From there, make your way through the park's entrance gate and find the information kiosk on your right. While there, look in all directions until you find a silhouette of a man and a woman (it's less than 75' away) and make a note of the nearby words.  Count the number of letters in each word and put the numbers together to form a new number, which will=A (for example, if the words were Red Brick Yard, you would put the 3,5, and 4 together to form 354).

Now, make your way down to Johnson Creek and turn to the left to go to the next stage (28.420 32.086) and find the knee-high sign that describes some of the local plant life.  Find the plant name that makes you think of two body parts and again, count the number of letters of each word and put the two numbers together to form a new number (just as you did at the first stop) which will=B.

Next, make your way to the large white building, which is called the Manor House and find a collection of non-native plants that are growning just off the SW corner (You should be about 25' from the large brick chimmney). You will know the common name of these types of plants as soon as you see them. Count the number of letters in that one word and let that=C.

Math Time!

A X B X C=D (Checksum of D=18)

To get the final NORTH coords, add 6339 to D and then insert the decimal point.
To get the final WEST coords, add 9889 to D and then insert the decimal point.
Checksum for the final coords, not including the 45 and 122 =37

The cache is in the upper area of the property. You will pass through at least one gate opening in a fence, depending on which path you choose.

Trail Maps are available inside the Manor House.
