This is the second cache that has been placed here. I had to archive the old one while construction was being done to the property. I'm happy to be placing another cache at this location!
Dubois Grocery was originally founded in 1940 and served as the areas only grocery, gas station, and general store for several miles. In 1958, a tornado ripped through the area and almost completely destroyed the store. However, it was swiftly rebuilt just in time for new construction of the Jackson Municipal Airport. In 1960, the founder of the grocery began serving hot plate lunches to construction crews working on the airport project. The new airport was completed in 1963, thanks in part to well fed workers on the project! It continued to thrive for many years, feeding the local area with country home cooking and selling general wares, until finally closing its doors in 1989.
The general store recently reopened as a restaurant, under the same name, and is operated and owned by two veterans of the MS Air National Guard located approximately one quarter of a mile away behind Dubois. If you have a moment, pop in to say hello and thank them for their service to our country. Take a moment to peruse the memorobilia lining the walls that were originally in the general store.
