#7 W. D. Cline-Bridwell Mansion (White House)
This Neo-Classical home, designed by Kansas City architech J. F. Lauck and Voelcker-Dixon of Wichita Falls, was built between 1926 and 1929 on four acres for Walter and Ella Cline, original investors in the Fowler Well, which set off the Burkburnett oil boom. Later J. S. Bridwell, another oil Baron, rancher, and civic leader purchased the house. Built by entrepreneur and oilman Walter Dearing Cline, was constructed for a reported $750,000. Mrs. Cline engaged architect Herbert Voelcker, of the firm of J.S. Lauck of Kansas City and the firm Voelcker Dixon of Wichita Falls, to design their residence. This twenty-two room, 11,000 square foot mansion sits on five acres in the Country Club Estates, and has a similar floor plan to the east wing of the original White House. The house is a magnificent two-story structure clad in cut Indiana limestone. Six Corinthian limestone columns surround the massive front porch. All materials were shipped by train and hauled by wagons to the building site. Thanks Shelle518 for the extra information on the house!
