At noon, on April 22, 1889, It is estimated that 50,000 people lined up for their piece of the available two million acres.
Horses and riders, wagons with whole families, lined up on the borders of the tract to be opened for settlement, and when the gun went off, the race was on.

At the opening of "Old Oklahoma,"
April 22, 1889, this was the North
line for the Run starting at 12
o'clock noon. Prairies and hills
in the 2,000,000 acre tract south,
were peopled by tens of thousands.
Homes were planted and tent cities
sprang up before nightfall."
