The Stortford Lodge stockyard dates back to 1903, when the yard was set up by the Auctioneers Association. They faced stiff competition from local farmers who set up their own yard over on Longlands Road in 1910.
However with strong weekly sales at Stortford Lodge, the yard on Longlands Road closed during the depression.
The yard is still operational, stealth with be required at times due to activity within the yard(Mainly on Wednesdays). There is no need to enter the stockyard, as the cache is in the park adjacent the yards. At certain times of the year stinging nettle may be near, so please be careful, though most of it is in the sheep pens which you don't need to enter.
St Leonards park can get quite busy, with all sorts of activities going on. Stealth will be required.
