Windgrass
The Aratoi Foundation has funded the $40,000 Konstantin Dimopoulos sculpture Windgrass, which stands more than six metres high in Featherston and sways in the wind. Given Featherston's blustery reputation, the tall mass of red-tipped yellow rods in Clifford Square is sure to be put through its paces.
This is the tallest sculpture he has ever made. A feature of this work is the sound that the rods make when the wind blows them, a kind of clattering sound. The swaying linear structures are meant to symbolise the bullrushes on Wairarapa's countryside. With up-lighting at night time the yellow moving rods will also resemble fire with its ochre-tipped extremities.
