Geocache Description:

A history that passes from Chinese vegetable garden to rubbish tip to open grass land to an expanding growing sports facility.
The cache has been moved and upsized due to its original location being muggled several times. Shouldnt prove too difficult,(but maybe it will) just VERY well hidden. Please leave it well disguised so as not to attract attention from muggles. When replacing cache, please DO NOT force the hide closed.

This park is worthy of your attention as it allows you to witness from a relatively quiet perspective the expansion of one of the last large modern inner urban industrial areas.

Perry Park like so many inner city parks has seen many and varied uses throughout its European history. It sits solidly within the industrial area of Alexandria which is currently seeing a lot of growth in the intensity and scale of its industrial activity.
Its industrial capacity likes its neighbouring (some would say) chic and progressive inner urban residential side has a broad cross section of business from boutique coffee manufacturing, to Bunnings, to sheet metal and plasterboard production. It is a successful blend of traditional industrial and modern industrial were it meets the growing urban interface.

Like Alexandria’s residential area its industrial section is developing its own cafe culture as these ubiquitous urban providers focus their businesses within the growing industrial area. One long running cafe is next to the public weighbridge (just next door to the Park) and its more modern sprawling cafe bistros and cafe car washes spring up around the area. The need for industrial growth supports the growth of food providers and then follows the development of sporting facilities as the growing residential population and industry workers press for more organised and modern passive and active sporting facilities.

Named after Alderman Arthur Reginald Horatio Perry JP who was mayor of Alexandria in the 1930s and president of the Alexandria ALP Branch.

A full history is available on the city of Sydney web site (visit link) with current approvals for a multi function sporting facility (visit link)
