Geocache Description:

Cache is located near the Surprise Bay camp site on the South Coast Track. This is a great camp site with views out over Surprise Bay.

We spent two nights at the camp on our recent return trip to New River Lagoon from Cockle Creek. It is one of the few camp sites where fires are allowed, which gives you a chance to dry out wet gear and clothes.

The cache should hopefully be easily found as the last thing you will want is a hard find after a long day of walking. Please view the location picture. The cache is beside track under rocks, behind a stump with large branch cut off. Look for a large white rock on the left hand side of track going down hill. Cache is about 1metre above track level. It was very hard trying to find a good hide in this area, hopefully the cache will last awhile without getting muggled or consumed by the environment.

I won't spend alot of time describing the track as anyone doing it will have done a lot of preparation and the cache will just be a bonus to find along the way. I will say to take care in the Tea Tree bog areas going over the South Cape Range. A maze of tracks has developed around these bogs, some side tracks lead to dead ends or multiple paths. We followed one side track around a large bog, which ended, we then tried to push our own way back to the main track. Lucky we had our gps with a gpx file of the track in it as we managed to endup about 60metres away from the track. Also, if you don't want to keep ending up to waist deep in mud take walking poles and it's probably wise to wear boots not walking shoes as you will have less chance of loosing them in the bog. :) There is no real way to describe the mud/track it has to be experienced. Thus the 4.5 Star terrain rating.
