Geocache Description:

This is one of several caches that were placed for the "NoVAGO Winter Event: Groundhog Day at Glencarlyn" held on 02/02/2013. This cache is in an Arlington County park and only available during daylight hours. Night caching is expressly prohibited.

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY

This cache is not for the faint of heart. It involves a significant hike of close to 5 miles, leading to what may be very difficult hides. It will require some climbing and you will encounter mud, poison ivy, ticks, thorns, and possibly snakes. At times of the year wading may be necessary. Attempt at your own risk.

That said I'll give you a little help. All stages (except the final) are NOT on the ground and are in most cases visible from just the right angle. There should be no need to tear up the landscape, so please don't do it. There is also no need to disassemble anything. No tools should be required, save for an extraction tool, e.g. tweezers.

I would suggest that if you choose to work together as a group for this cache then please keep the group small, 1-4 people would be best. Some of the locations are tight and a large group of people would likely result in someone getting hurt.

Now for the good news. Most of this cache is accessible via paved trails, the Four Mile Run and W&OD trails. Several of the stages will require that you leave the pavement in favor of dirt trails, but there should be minimal bushwhacking involved. Don't let that fool you though, the terrain rating is accurate and reflects conditions that will be experienced in the Summer months.

The suggested parking coordinates will get you to a good starting point and the various stages will lead in an out and back manner that will return you to this location.

Please do not post hints or spoilers of any kind (including the number of stages) in your logs and photos. Please feel free to post photos of anything not related to the cache you find along the way. This park has a surprising amount of wildlife; including numerous types of birds and waterfowl, deer, foxes, raccoons and opossums; amongst many other everyday creatures. Check out Sparrow Pond which has an ample population of frogs and turtles in the warmer months.
