Geocache Description:


Image I found this spot years ago thanks to a geocache that was hidden here so it seemed fitting to put another up in its absence. The place across the lake is, was, named Scona Lodge.  Scona, meaning across the water in Cherokee, was built on the bank of the Little Tennessee River. Scona was built by Alcoa Aluminum Company across the Little Tennessee River in 1937 for the entertainment of the wealthy citizens of the area and visiting business people and dignitaries from foreign countries.  Alcoa annihilated the entire property in the late 90s.  All traces of the lodge are gone.  Not even a brick is left to mark its existence.  There are rumors of unsavory activities occurring at Scona that coincide with the many happy events that surely occurred. 

This is the ferry point that crossed over to it. I don't know much more but did find an excellent source online with photos and a trip that he took a year ago. Gary did an excellent write up and has several entries on his blog page should you want to know the histoyr of Scona.

The entrance to this location is gate controlled and only open from the hours of 8am-3pm Monday thru Friday. You can however park at the top and walk into this spot as I did in hiding. It is 1.75 miles (one way) to GZ and steep going down. For this reason I'm rating this as a 2.5 for terrain. Plenty of turkeys and deer all around. If you are able to drive in you can easily drive to within 20' of this item.
