Geocache Description:

This cache involves a short, well marked walk across Deadwood plain and up Flagstaff Hill, with truely magnificent views at the end.

The Cache is located on Flagstaff Hill where there is also a 'post box' walk location. There are 21 post box walks on St. Helena of which this is by far the easiest! However the cache is located a short distance away from the 'post box' in a slightly more remote location. You can park at waypoint 'PK' or even drive further up the hill to the treeline if your vehicle is suitable but I prefer the walk across the historic Deadwood plain which has been home to a race course, an army camp, and a Boar prisoner of war camp in the past. It now however houses six wind turbines, cows, and the Islands ellusive wire birds if you can spot them. Recently a short stretch of the Basil Reid haul road has blemished this lovely spot but you soon leave that behind. The start of the walk can also be accessed by public transport and you can do one of the local walks all the way back to Jamestown if you feel fit enough and have the time. The top of the hill has spectacular views of the Barn (another local hill) and the surrounding sea cliffs. The Cache is located near the top of the hill and is in a usual plastic sandwich type container. Good luck with the hunt, its best done on a clear day as if its misty you will miss the great view.
