Silverdale Saunter is a circular walk that takes you to a series of 6 geocaches. You can start the walk from the Millenium clock in the village centre. The walk is 3.7 miles long and takes you to some beautiful spots and through fields, woodland and coastal sites with some great views on the way. We'll tell you about the local history as you go.
Previous lost nanocache now replaced11/4/15. Near this nanocache is Woodwell which is one of Silverdale’s historic wells. Mamma maun owns a geocache there. Piped water did not arrive in Silverdale until 1940 when water it came in from Hawes Water in the Lake District. This explains why Silverdale water supplies are soft in the midst of a limestone area. Until then the wells of Silverdale were very important and Woodwell is no exception. The residents of Silverdale washed their clothes and collected water here and also washed themselves! At other Silverdale wells walls have been built which the ladies( and gentlemen!) of Silverdale would use for privacy to wash. No hot showers for them! They were tough. The pool below was used for watering livestock.
Continue on the footpath behind the houses until you reach Stankelt Road and the Millenium clock.....and a well earned rest. Hope you enjoyed the walk
