Geocache Description:

This cache came about for two reasons, one - it is such a nice place to visit on warm days, the second - my first cache in Millicent mentions the earlier swimming pool this feature replaced.

The following information is taken from the book on Millicent's History, "Walking Tall" by Joy Melano.
"In 1956 there began a drive for a swimming pool that waxed and waned over the next decade. In 1967, after years of discussion, it was decide to build a swimming lake instead, and a committee was formed to this end. Under the guidance of the President, Mr. J. D. Pocock and Secretary, Mr. R.J. Chantrill, and an enthusiastic band of hardworking volunteers, the lake took shape with quite startling rapidity.
Funds already in hand, two grants from the Government of  $9,000 and $6,000, plus the donation of $1,000 from Cellulose, helped towards the total cost of almost $50,000.
On an almost perfect day in January, 1969, with the sandy beach area and grassy lawns ablaze with a kaleidoscope of colour, the Premier, Mr. Steele Hall declared the Millicent swimming Lake open — and finished in it, for his pains !"

The swimming lake has undergone improvements over the years with the result that it now has a sealed floor and the water is treated to the relevant standard with the use of Chlorine. The Wattle Range Council maintains the lake and surrounds with a mix of casual and permanent employees during the swimming season from December to the end of March. The lake is drained in April and refilling starts towards the end of November.

I hope you enjoy the visit to this park which is a real community asset and the early morning swimmers are saying the lake water is in the best condition they have ever seen it.

If your visit is on a hot day muggles will be in abundance but hopefully not too close to the cache. At other times you may receive quite a welcome from Corellas when approaching the cache which destroys any thoughts of stealth. The cache is a camouflaged eclipse tin and you will need your own pen. Please replace as found. A small yellow sticker will be exposed when cache is removed to assist in replacement in the right spot.
