Hollywood View - Griffith Observatory Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Hemlock: This cache has been brought to my attention via a "needs archived" log. This cache has been missing for about 4 months, which should be more than enough time to check on it and replace it if needed. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don't think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache.

When/if this cache is replaced, please email me at hemlock@geocachingadmin.com and I'll be more than happy to take a look at your cache again. If it is still is within the guidelines for cache placement and posting, it will then be unarchived.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
Hemlock

Geocache Description:

Gatorade Bottle Cache with a great view of Hollywood, Los Angeles, the Griffith Observatory, and the Hollywood Sign.

You’ll find this cache a little bit of a challenge to find. It’s located up a fairly steep hill in Hollywood, California. Climbing equipment isn’t necessary, but sensible shoes and blue jeans are recommended. Altitude of the cache is 1286 feet.

Directions:
Follow signs to the Griffith Park and Observatory. Drive through the tunnel to parking at:
N 34° 07.258
W 118° 18.021
Parking altitude is 1118 feet.
Follow signs entering the Berlin Forrest and walk on to Dante View.

Several trails can help you access the cache without climbing straight up the side of the hill.

Photographs have been provided of the cache area.

The cache is simply a Gatorade bottle filled with paper and a pen. We hid this cache at the spur of the moment and it doesn’t have any physical treasures included. The challenge of finding the cache and the spectacular view on arrival should be rewarding enough. If you’d like to start placing items in the cache, you’re more than welcome; but you might want to bring a larger container to replace the Gatorade bottle. We’d return to upgrade the cache, but we were on vacation from Indiana when we placed it, and that simply isn’t practical.
