Geocache Description:

This cache is one of twelve that pay tribute to St. Patrick's Day 2013. They have been placed in conjunction with the Story City Meet-N-Greet event taking place the day before. We hope that you enjoy the series! Please BYOP

The shillelagh (pronounced "shuh-lay-lee") is another piece of Irish folklore. The shillelagh is basically a wooden walking stick with a knob at the top. Though these ornamental sticks aren't used for combat as they were in ancient times, they have become a symbol of general "Irishness." Many people of Irish decent have one hanging in their home as a conversation piece. Even the Boston Celtics basketball team has a leprechaun holding a shillelagh. Though it isn't of much relevance to Ireland today, there have been many a family that prides themselves on their walking sticks.
